...it's all about pictures...

My little girls

Random photosPosted by Katarina Souto Mera Thu, February 28, 2013 12:01:42

I just love when I can capture my two girls together, playing, interacting or just being together. And it is very tough. I learnt how to shoot them alone, but get them on picture together it is not two times, but three times more difficult. And the "sessions" are only about 5 min long before they loose patience with me. :) So those photographs I capture of them both together are even more special for me.

My little poulette

Random photosPosted by Katarina Souto Mera Wed, March 24, 2010 12:05:09

Since I didn't have time to write something thoughtfull, I'm just going to post some photos of my baby.

I really enjoy photographing her, but she is so difficult to focus because she never stops moving. I have to grab those moment when she stays still for a second. Even then many pictures are out of focus. But those good ones are really rewarding.

Again, as always, shot on film with Pentax MZ-S camera and SMC FA 77/1,8 Limited lens with help of Pentax AF-540FGZ speed light bounced off walls.

I found a lab where instead of index print you can choose to have a CD with low res files from your film. I find it very convenient, because I don't have to scan the whole film, I don't even have to take out my scanner! Well, of course, for big prints it is not enough of resolution, but for just posting it here - nobody sees the difference. I have to ask if they have this otpion for B&W films as well, and I might consider to hand over my precious negatives to have them develop by somebody else than me. That would save me a lot of time.

A Lanzada, Galicia, España

Random photosPosted by Katarina Souto Mera Fri, March 19, 2010 12:27:01

Just wanted to share with you some pictures from last summer holidays in Spain, Galicia. The nature is just beautiful, full of photographic opportunities and the food... don't get me started on that :)). The beach A Lanzada is beautiful white sand beach with clear cold ocean water and cooling breeze.

These photographs are captured on my digital P&S just before sunrise. The light is just beautiful, magical. I have to thank to my baby and the dog, who were waking us up very early in the morning, so then we just got up and headed to the beach to make a walk. Couple of times I took my film SRL with me with all my lenses and stuff, but with the baby and the dog and complaining husband, it is quite difficult to concentrate :)) So mostly I just took my little digital camera and grabbed some shots on the way...

My baby model

Random photosPosted by Katarina Souto Mera Wed, March 17, 2010 10:33:56

Almost a year and a half ago I gave birth to my beautiful daughter Noelia and since then I don't have much time left for the photography and my website :)). However I have been taking a lot of pictures of her mostly with my digital point and shoot. Here are some examples taken over the time...

Point and shoot is generally easy to use, it is small, you can have it on you most of the time and the quality of nowadays digital cameras is not bad at all. Plus considering how many photos end up blurry and out of focus because the kids never stay still not even for a second, you can save up quite a lot of processing cost (talking about film development).

But recently I started to shoot her with a film SLR Pentax MZ-S choosing a colour film over B&W due to lack of time to develop them myself. I wanted different images with shallow depth of field and quality that you cannot achieve with just a P&S. If I need to use flash, I don't have to use the build-in-flash of P&S which throws direct light on the subject and creates unflattering lighting. With the SRL, I can pair it with dedicated flashgun Pentax AF-540FGZ and bounce the light in any direction or use it off camera.

Here are some recent photographs of my daughter shot on Fujifilm with my Pentax MZ-S paired with SMC FA 77/1,8 Limited portrait lens and Pentax AF-540FGZ flashgun.

You can clearly see the difference between the P&S and SRL images. Of course, with the film you don't have the instant feedback from the digital LCD whether you got the picture or not, you have to wait till you get your processed film back from your lab and then you realise that half of them are just rubbish :)), but I think it is worth to have photographs of my baby that are different then the rest.
