"SEASCAPES" not to miss

ExhibitionsPosted by Katarina Souto Fri, September 25, 2009 11:19:22

...just a short description of my serie "SEASCAPES" which will be exhibited in the Annual Exhibition of the Brussels Miroir photo club (read more about it in my previous post here)

Katarina Souto Mera - Seascapes

For a long time I have been fascinated with vast open spaces of waterscapes and how the water interact with the land around and how they complement each other. B&W mode let you concentrate on this interaction of elements and does not lead your mind away with beautifull colours.
These photographs are from 3 different countries, but some of them are taken at the same beach, just from a different viewpoint and under different light conditions. Maybe sometimes the water is invisible on the picture, but you can smell it just right there over the dune or behind your back.
All of the photographs were conceived on film, but then scanned and inject printed.

Hope to see you there!

Diving is freedom

ExhibitionsPosted by Katarina Souto Sun, November 30, 2008 10:37:08

Omer Yaglidere and Fatma Filiz are presenting their portfolio “Diving is freedom” in the exhibition in the Konak Culture Centre in Bursa, Turkey from the 3 to 25 December. The opening ceremony is starts at 19,00 on the December 3, 2008.

Blog Image

"Diving is freedom" is about disabled children trying to find their place in the society through swimming and diving, and about people from the Uludağ Universitiy Underwater Club helping them to achieve this goal. Through their portfolio Omer and Fatma are trying to raise awareness of this hard task picturing the resolution on the faces of the children willing to fight and overcome their disability, and love, encouragement and patience of their tutors assisting them with this difficult struggle.

If you are not able to make it to the exhibition, you can have a peek on the sample of Omer and Fatma’s photographs in the Guest Gallery on my website www.soutophotography.com and also learn more about who they are.

Last month I have announced the opening the Guest Gallery Project and Omer with Fatma are the first participants. I hope to have some more of you fellow photographers participating and showing us some of your photographic work.

GYPSIES - CIGÁNI

ExhibitionsPosted by Katarina Bartkova Tue, December 11, 2007 09:34:37

I would like to invite you all to my exposition of the black and white photographs of Gypsies in Slovakia.

The exposition organised under F.C.P. project - "PHOTOGRAPHIC DISCOVERY", takes place in MAISON DE LA CULTURE D'ARLON, Parc des expositions 1 à Arlon, Belgique, open from Tuesday 4th December till January 8th from 9 - 12am and from 13-18pm.

Blog Image

This serie of photographs was already published in the Image magazine in 2006 and were awarded Honorable mention in the competition of black and white series in Belgium.

The photographs are showing the people living in gypsies villages of north-east Slovakia, their poor living conditions, many times without running water or heating. But as soon as they hear some tunes of music, they are ready to dance and sing. I had also the exceptional privilege to participate at a funeral, which is very rare photographic and human experience.
